I often struggle in human relations. The plants are easier to befriend; the mountains stay loyal. My big open heart gets bruised easily. My straightforward and passionate approach to loving (friends and lovers alike) can miss social cues, nuance, and red flags.
I’ve been lost in people-pleasing, misunderstood by blood and chosen family, confused by avoidants, and ghosted by community. Overwhelm from care-taking and unreciprocated relationships led to burn-out and break-ups.
Three years of therapy later, it’s clear that the Universe is teaching me these major lessons: 1) it’s usually not about me 2) not everyone is for me and 3) loving myself helps me discern where, when and how to share energy with others.
This year, discernment is a site of learning.
